HOW TO SURVIVE YOUR DOCTOR: PROSTATE ENLARGEMENT, PRURITUS ANI
Prostate Enlargement
Frequency, hesitancy, nocturia, terminal dribbling and a reduction in the flow of urine all come together to indicate the presence of Benign Prostate Enlargement. This condition may lead to infection and the never to be forgotten pain of complete urinary obstruction.
In acute urinary retention catheterization is mandatory. The catheter is left in for three days until the bladder regains its muscle tone. If obstruction fails to resolve the inevitable outcome is surgery.
Surgery can be postponed for variable periods by drugs such as Minipress that relax the muscles in and around the prostate. Regular intercourse or masturbation is advised as a reliable means of relieving prostatic congestion. The Americans are rumored to be obsessed with their prostates and in that country prostatic massage is practiced to relieve the congestion.
Pruritus Ani
Translated into English, Pruritus Ani reads an itchy bottom. Frequently the cause of Pruritus Ani is overzealous hygiene. An excess of soap and water removes protective oils from around the anal sphincter and small particles of faeces enter the anal crypts resulting in an irritating itch. The normal response to this itch is to apply even more soap and water and the viscous circle is perpetuated. The application of 1 per cent Hydrocortisone ointment relieves the itch in two or three days.
Don\'t wash the back passage with soaps or shampoos. Warm tepid water is sufficient.
