THRUSH
Thrush is an overgrowth of Candida Albicans. The condition can occur on the skin, in the nail folds and within any bodily orifice. In women, thrush plagues the genital tract. Babies get it in the mouth and also in association with nappy rash.
An overgrowth of thrush usually occurs when the routine defenses of a bodily location are affected by internal or external circumstances: Candida likes an alkaline environment. Hormonal changes in the menstrual cycle cause alkalinity of the vaginal mucus predisposing to an overgrowth. Sperm too is alkaline; and again some women experience an overgrowth of Candida frequently after intercourse. Stress affects the body’s levels of Cortisone which in turn affects the acidity of many mucus membranes.
In many situations, thrush is held in check by other species of micro organism. Antibiotics cut a swathe through yeast\'s microbiological travelling companions and here yet again the thrush over grows.
It is highly unlikely that Candida can ever be eradicated from inside and outside the human body. It is present in most people’s gastrointestinal tracts and on the skin of their fingers and hands. It may be possible that the spores of thrush contaminate the handles of telephones and the notes and coinage of our monetary system.
The use of antifungal antibiotics is crude, unsophisticated and offers no long term solution to the problem. The solution to thrush is not to kill the micro organism at all costs with toxic drugs and chemicals. It is a painstaking question of balance. It is a matter of health promotion. By looking after the body, the thrush takes care of itself.
